Snow is Only an Hour Away

There is a ton of snow in the high country tonight. Forcasters are saying it's going to be a big storm tonight. Prescott got snow today too. That's only an hour away. Maybe Courtney and I should take a little drive with the doggies to play in the snow??

Back in high school, Chad, Joey, Brandon and I all used to ditch school just to drive up north to play in the snow. It was like a big deal, I mean we had pack stuff. The first time it was just the four of us, before you could blink, there was 13 or 15 of us, and a caravan of cars heading up to Jerome.

Ahh those were the days....

I Wish I Could Get Out of This

I have a kids class to teach tomorrow morning, only 10 kids. Let's pray that they all show up.

After running my ass off all day getting supplies, I'm really tired. I made the pastry cream and lemon curd tonight since they need time to set up. Did several loads of laundry, mopped floors, then I made dinner for Granny and Bob.

Thankfully, I'll be done by 2:30 or 3, and I'm off on Sunday. Maybe I'll go see a movie or something or just read my new book.

Lazy Rainy Day

I woke up later today than I normally do. I still have stuff to finish from yesterday. Courtney is working all day today, so that will give me plenty of time to get stuff done.

It's a grey day today here in Phoenix, I'll post a picture later. I'm going to head out to the gym later this afternoon. I've got some cooking to do in the kitchen to get ready for tomorrow's class. I'm going to make pastry cream and lemon curd, look for the recipes later today.

Cracking Up

Molly Shannon has her own TV show on Fox starting March 9th.

I think she's totally twisted and funny. And best of all, Jason Schwartzman is also on the show.

Check out the show's blog.

On Top of Things Today

I got up at 7am, watched a little TV, downloaded some iTunes, did my one mile walking and then headed to the gym. A full hour of working out today! I am feeling so good. Ready to take on the day!

Got lots to do today. I've got a class on Saturday, so I need to shop for that, pick some lemons, write an ariticle about lemons for my recipe blog, take granny's car for an oil change, and hopefully get a change to do some shopping with BoyWithoutAHome.

Then when Courtney gets home, I'm going to ask him to help me on this Tartine Challenge.

Oh and I got this book last night, looks pretty good.

*UPDATE*

Pastry No-No

I was just watching this show before headding out to the gym. They gave away a wedding to one lucky couple worth $23K. Not bad, I'd sign up for that.

So they were showing the wedding cake, and you know the pastry chef in me is all over this. I don't like to be critical, but dude when you leave yourself wide open like this, you leave me no choice. So the couple cuts into the cake, and they are struggling with it, which to me seems a little odd. Cakes are suppose to be easy to cut. Next they are going to shove cake in each other's mouths, and Hedi blurts out, "oh is it still FROZEN?" A big no-no in the pastry world.

Frozen cakes suck, and dude it's not that difficult to have one fresh these days if you've planned out the execution well in advance. What happend to things that were once frozen and are now at room tempreature? It thaws, and that causes the cake to get soggy, and no one likes a soggy cake.

Also, I wouldn't announce on TV that your cakes are frozen. Just a tip.

Dude...

I just got the confirmation email that my tickets for Coachella have been printed and sent. I am so excited about going to this concert!

This will also be a little vacation for me and Courtney, which will be really nice. We hardly get to spend much time with each other these days. Then after the concert, I'm off to Raleigh to see my sister and hopefully her new bundle of joy. It won't be a long trip, but anything more than a hour with my sister is enough for anyone. I'm happy for her though. So I suppose that I should offer some kind of sisterly support.

Courtney and I might actually get to take a few little trips this year. Work has been steady for both of us, which means we have enough for a little something special from time to time. He wants to go to the NC Apple Festival again, but I not be able to get time off for that one. And then he wants to go to Denver to see his sister, Carrie. Looks like we may have a busy summer this year.

Keep Your Noises to Yourself Please!

Ok, I was just at Borders picking up this cookbook. I decided to be the geek that I am and wander over to the web design books to see if there was anything I just couldn't live without.

There was this older guy already sitting there on the bench. I picked up a book and was thumbing through it, minding my own business, when this guy starts to hack up a lung. It was the mose disgusting sound I had ever heard! Worse than Courtney, so you know that's gotta be bad. Oh and it didn't stop either, I was there about 20 minutes and when I got up and walked away, he was still going at it!

Did I really need to hear all of that phlem? The bathroom was only 10ft away he could have excused himself. I would have even saved his seat on the bench.

I Didn't Know This...

When I booked the hotel for Coachella, I was really going blind. I just wanted a nice place at a decent price.

When I was showing it to my friends today at work, I didn't realize that it was the same resort that Trista and Ryan were married at. Kinda cool. Maybe it's a sign of things to come???

KICK ASS! ROCK ON!

I just got my tickets for Coachella, and my hotel room booked. The little goth girl inside of me lives and she is very stoked!

Since the money grubbing machine that is ticketmaster charged a whopping $331 for two, two-day tickets I really need a hotel that didn't require a pre-paid deposit for the reservation. After digging for two hours, I finally found this one that seemed pretty nice and it was a little cheaper than most.

I am so excited to see The Cure and The Pixies! I can't stand it!

Odd Conversations at The Dentist Office

I went to get some minor fillings today, and while sitting in the chair, my dentist and his assistant had some colorful conversations about strip bars. I felt a little odd, I couldn't join in the conversation cause he was drilling.

It was just weird.

I'M SO PISSED RIGHT NOW!!!

My father passed away almost two years ago. I still haven't gotten over it, and his death has been very hard on me. He was all I had. He didn't love me when he was here, but I still loved him so I could over look all of that.

My father re-married in 1992, and my sister and I were not very happy with it. I wanted my father to have love in his life, I just didn't think she was good enough.

Now my father's wife is refusing to give my sister and I our family possessions. The items in question are a dining room set that my father made when I was 10 years old; a silver money clip; my baby book; his diplomas; and baby pictures of my father.

Poor Rocco...

CNN.com - Celebrity TV chef sued by investors - Feb. 11, 2004

That's gotta suck. We got a case of his cookbooks a few months ago at the store..all of them personally signed...last I looked I think a majority are still on the shelves.

Good luck Rocco...I don't think your good looks are going to get you out of this one.

Feeling a Bit Odd Today

I'm having odd thoughts today...Just thinking about life and such...

When I was growing up, I was never part of the "In" crowd, even though all of those guys were my friends...I just sorta hung out along the outsides I guess. Not too far off, but far enough to keep out the drama.

Even now, I'm 32, and I still hang along the outside a bit. At work, I'm liked, and I have a small circle of friends whom I've know for more than 10 years (none of whom ever read this blog...) I just feel like I'm outside looking in sometimes.

I think I need to go to the gym...then I'll feel better :)

When Biscuits Go Wrong...

On just about every blog I've been to in the last week there has been a comment about the new Quizno's commerical featuring the work of Joel Veitch. People seem to be really freaked out about it. I just want to say that I love it! He also does the VH1 dancing kittens spots.

Check this new ditty out, "When Biscuits Go Wrong"

Lack of Concentration

Every had one of those days when you just can't get shit done? Yeah, well this is one of those days.

It's not like I have a lot to do, but I just can't seem to concentrate on one thought long enough to get the work out. It's such a nice day out today too, and I'm stuck in the kitchen today. Well there is always tomorrow....

Ok, time to buckle down and get some work done.

New Stuff is a Comin'!

I've been managing my time off a bit better these days, so I have some free time and thought that I would re-vamp my recipe blog.

I hope to focus on sharing culinary ideas and recipes that have been tested and proven so that everyone can make them. Since I'm doing Weight Watchers, I hope to include the point values with all the recipes. I'll also have pictures of all the dishes I make, so you have some reference point as to what it looks like finished. Plus, PRINTER-FRIENDLY archives!

I hope that you'll enjoy the new site, and share the link with your family and friends.

I'm headed out to the gym, and then to get my hair done. I'll finish up this afternoon!

Til Death Do Us Apart...

Ok, I TIVO'd the show...and tonight's episode was all about the bridal shower. I was a bit grossed out when I saw the caterer sticking his fingers in his mouth and then touching the food that she was going to serve. Once is ok, I can live with that...but DUDE you're on freakin TV, and the MTV cameras were all over it. Then the dude serves the food to Carmen and her girlfriends, and he sticks his finger in the food AGAIN! He must have done it like 6 times on camera...who knows how many times he did off camera! OMG! Yuck! I'm staying away from that caterer.
